DEADWOOD DOG

Deadwood Dog were formed in 2010 when the songwriting duo of Barker/Stokes by pure chance met in Preston City centre.  They had previously worked together in Pike, a rock punk outfit.  The band name came from Mick 'Deadwood' Stokes and Daevid Goral 'Dog' Barker. Daev had always been a talented guitar player and had taken up Greek Bouzouki.  He had a number of instrumental pieces, but lyrics were not his strong point.  Mick Pike, wordsmith extraordinaire, if i say so myself (which i literally am doing) began writing and This world and Warehouse Riot were created.  Amsterdam, Deadwood Rant and Divided Kingdom soon followed. What began as a duo, soon became a three piece band with the addition of Jez Catlow Pike on bass.  They played their first gig on 12th April 2011 at the Dog & Partridge, Preston, under the guise of Cadaver Dogs, with Robin (pike drummer) helping out on drums.   Soon after Three became four as Mick O'Brien, renowned Preston drummer was recruited.  He had played in numerous bands notably Gary Hall and the Stormkeepers. We began rehearsing at Smokin' Beats in Penwortham and with a few reworks of Pike and Cadaver Dogs songs we had a set. August 2011 saw them in the studio recording a three track E.P. entitled 'Warehouse Riot'.  We began gigging around Preston and things were progressing nicely.  Sadly Mick was taken ill and could not continue.  He passed away in 2012.

We continued doing acoustic gigs before Andy Middleton was recruited on drums, and in February 2013 we recorded 'Deadwood Rant'.  Andy broke his arm the week before we went into the studio so Robin once again helping out on the drums. With a full calendar to fulfill gig-wise Fong was brought in to drum.  Robin Hazlehurst joined on acoustic guitar, closely followed by Sarah on violin.  in August 2013 work began on our debut album 'United Colours Of Bigotry' at Jaraf House Studio with John Kettle at the controls.  it all went pretty smoothly and the album was released in October the same year and was well received by both our fanbase and the music press.  Soon after the album release Fong left and Andy came back. John Harkins was brought in on electic guitar. More gigs followed including headliners at 53 Degrees, Preston and on the Woodland Stage at Bearded Theory Festival.  Things in general were going well and in 2014 they began work on the second album 'Someone To Blame'.  Over time band members began drifting away, till in the end only Daevid And Mick remained in the studio.  Sarah added a bit of violin to 'Divided Kingdom' which was a lovely touch, and John Kettle laid some guitars. The tracks were remixed and it was finally finished, almost three years after they began.  It was worth it though, another excellent album.  To be continued......
